2009 Customer Appreciation Sale It's official! Sale Extended!
from Hawthorne Village(r) and Collectibles Today(r)
Once a year, the world's largest distributor of railroad themed and ceramic village collectibles has a one-week sale. All of the
items they list have been in their regular catalog. Most are limited edition collectibles that are now available in such small numbers that it doesn't make sense to leave them in their catalog.
This year several of the items listed have been featured in our Big Christmas Trains(tm) and Halloween Trains pages, and have been very popular with our readers. In one sense, I'm sorry to see them go, because it means you'll only be able to get them from other collectors after this. But in another sense, I'm delighted to have this opportunity to make these unique items available at significantly reduced prices, even if it's only for a short time.
But last year when Collectibles Today had this sale, most of the stuff we recommended literally flew off the shelves, and many folks who didn't check out the sale as soon as they heard about it were disappointed. In fact, you will see blank places on this page where products have sold out between the time I originally put the page together and the time you clicked on it. And you will also most likely click on things to discover that they're no longer there at all. Sorry about that, I'm doing the best I can to keep up. :-)
Also, if you're interested in anything NASCAR, hit the big red rectangle above these paragraphs - some of those products are disappearing so fast, I haven't had time to put any specific listings on this page.
Update, Friday, July 24, 4:49PM Eastern Time - Okay, I was warned that the sale would end at midnight, July 23. I wasn't surprised when the links on some of the sale items still worked by noon, July 24, since Collectibles Today never gets ALL their promotions disabled at the same time. But a few hours later, the sale still seemed to be going on. In fact, they added items that weren't in the sale before. So I apologize for panicking anyone regarding the duration of the sale - I really was trying to do the right thing.
This reminds me of one of the first garage sales we had at our present house. I was trying to clean the garage at the same time my wife was holding the sale, but I kept finding weird stuff from the previous homeowners that I knew I would naver have a use for. By the time the sale was over, we had almost as much stuff for sale as we had when we started. I'm guessing that the Collectibles Today inventory folks kept scrounging up pieces here and there that were in such small quantities, they didn't even bother posting them before. But they've added them now, and added some undetermined length of time to the sale itself.
New items added include a scary movie Halloween village set, commemorative HO train sets for the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, and LA Lakers, and more. So click on the red box above (if it's still there when you see this page) and check it out.
That said, if you find anything you like on these pages, please don't wait too long - By now I've had to take twelve of my favorite items off this page because they have sold out. Over 60 of the items on the original overall list are gone as well.
Also, I spent part of the day today looking over the Dept 56 Halloween and "Christmas in the City" collections at DeClarke's, a card and gift store in Kettering, Ohio. I have to say that the photographs on the Dept 56 items do NOT do them justice. These are great pieces. I especially like the Diner [and one other piece that sold out right after I typed this message in the first place] but if you're a Dept 56 collector, you know that the quality and charm of their pieces just keeps improving, so I'm not telling you anything you don't know.
Update, Thursday, July 30, 6:30 A.M. Eastern Time - Two more days, and, by now nearly a third of the items that were originally on sale are no longer available. If you've been checking this page, you'll notice that the list of "favorites" posted here keep getting shorter and shorter as well.
Finally, please don't wait too long. When you click on an item and the page that opens says "The item you're looking for is no longer available," that really is the end of the story. Hit the back button and try again.
Happy hunting! - Paul
