New Boston and Donnels Creek:

January, 2003 Photos

Written by Paul D. Race for Family Garden Trains

These were mostly taken for fun. A few days after these photos were taken, you couldn't see any of the buildings on the railroad at all. Looking over these, I realized that one advantage these photographs have is that you can get a better sense of the proportion of my railroad than you can in some of the photos with a riot of plant growth. However, if you want to see pretty photos of the way a garden railroad is supposed to look most of the years, you'll also check out the my June, 2002 photographs.

The stalk of brush behind the church is a yarrow I didn't get cut down. Shortly after I took this photo, I brought the church indoors as its construction really isn't suited to wintering over. For a contrast, check out this photo of about the same area from a different angle, taken about seven months earlier.
Donnels Creek. Same "Walthers" (now Aristocraft) station, different angle. You can see the netting that I used to keep at least some of the neighbors' leaves out of my pond. Mugo pines to the right, dwarf alberta toward the back. Two Aristocraft "woodie" passenger cars got caught in the snow, as well.
Same station, different angle, still on the South Loop of the railroad
This photo shows New Boston station. For contrast, check out , this photo which shows about the same area about seven months earlier.

New Boston with a light dusting of snow. A couple weeks later, we got a foot on top of this snow and I dug these buildings out, since they're not entirely suitable for wintering over. A summer photograph of the first row of buildings is here.
